Happy Sunday, friends! How is the Christmas season treating you so far? Let me know in the comments. We celebrated Audrey’s 3rd birthday yesterday and I just can’t believe it! Time is flying!
Now, it's that time of the year when our skin needs a little extra love, especially here in the south where winter's more about chilly breezes than icy blasts intermingled with hot bursts. I’m all about keeping things chill, sharing easy-breezy tips and natural tricks, so think of this as your guide to giving your skin the TLC it deserves while sipping on a warm cup of something comforting, or in my case, an iced coffee, no matter what the temp is.
Southern winters may not hit us with super freezing temperatures, but that doesn't mean our skin gets a free pass. I’m going to spill the beans on how staying hydrated and throwing in a humidifier can keep your skin feeling lush and radiant. And because I’m all about keeping it real, I've got some homemade skincare hacks in the mix. Picture yourself indulging in a DIY sugar scrub or rocking a honey mask – simple pleasures that make your skin go "ahh."
Elevating our winter skincare routine wouldn't be complete without a touch of sophistication. We delve into the world of clean and mindful beauty, exploring products that effortlessly integrate into our winter skincare repertoire. These gems ensure our skin not only survives but thrives in the face of the season's challenges. Join me on this skincare journey, where each tip and recommendation is a step towards a radiant and revitalized winter glow, leaving you ready to take on the day with beautiful skin.
Now, you know I’m a stickler for clean ingredients only, so everything linked in this article follows that personal standard. Think of it as the clean, easy button!
1. Hydrate from Within:
If you’ve hung with me for the last few years, you know staying hydrated is always at the top of my list. Ensure you stay well-hydrated during winter by drinking plenty of water. Hydration is key for healthy skin. Here’s my tip, though, since water can carry some precarious things, a good water filter is a must. I recommend the Boroux water filter system with the fluoride filters. And a cute cup never hurts, here’s my favorite brand at the moment.
2. Use a Humidifier:
Combat the dry indoor air by using a humidifier. This helps maintain moisture levels in your skin. Here are some great options.
3. Gentle Exfoliation:
Exfoliate your skin regularly to remove dead skin cells. Try a DIY sugar scrub with avocado oil for a natural exfoliant. Using unrefined sugar will feed your skin essential nutrients that refined sugar will not. Avocado oil is anti-inflammatory and your skin will love it! I recommend Chosen Avocado Oil, as tests have shown it to be consistently avocado oil. (Can you believe manufacturers will slap an avocado label on soy oil?!)
4. DIY Honey Mask:
Nourish your skin with a honey mask. Mix raw Manuka honey with a bit of plain, full fat yogurt for a hydrating and soothing treatment.
5. Cold-Pressed Oils:
Use natural oils like jojoba or argan oil to moisturize your skin. These oils mimic the skin's natural sebum.
6. Protective Clothing:
Wear hats and scarves to shield your face from harsh winds and cold temperatures.
7. Night Time Hydration Cream:
Replenish moisture and support skin regeneration with a night time hydration cream, doing all the work for you while you sleep. BeautyCounter's Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream is a great, clean choice for your night time routine..
8. DIY Avocado Face Mask:
Mash a ripe avocado and apply it as a face mask. Avocado is rich in natural oils and vitamins that nourish and hydrate the skin.
9. Limit Hot Showers:
Oh my goodness, I love a hot shower, but boy can it take a toll on my skin. Hot showers can strip your skin of natural oils. Opt for lukewarm water to prevent excessive dryness. Feeling up for a challenge? Try a cold shower a couple of times a week, it’s great for your skin, hair, and has a ton of mental and physical benefits!
10. Charcoal Facial Mask:
Treat your skin to a luxurious charcoal facial mask that will leave your skin refreshed while helping to draw out impurities. My favorite is BeautyCounter's Counter+ Charcoal Facial Mask.
Remember, consistency is key. Tailor these tips to your skin type, and consult with a dermatologist if you have specific concerns or conditions.
So, whether you're sipping on hot coffee in Louisiana or facing frostier winds elsewhere, let's embrace this winter skincare adventure together. Your skin deserves the best, and with these tips and a sprinkle of curiosity, you're on your way to a radiant and revitalized glow. Stay cozy, stay beautiful, and let the winter vibes be your guide to skincare bliss. Until next time, here's to glowing through the season with a touch of self-care magic!

Francie
